Learning, as it indicates, has many meanings that one would choose to perceive things of their interests. Books have always been an inevitable part of one’s life as they can make people aware of different things happening in our world. It said that not everything which is learned is written in books. This is true since books can offer us knowledge regarding what has occurred and sometimes how to deal with a situation that a person can encounter in real life. Some skills like driving, swimming, and other sports, playing an instrument that you must experience and do yourself to learn. I appreciate that the knowledge gained from experience is much more important than that we receive from books. I would like to illustrate my reasons further as follows:
Everyone would admit that knowledge gained from experience remains in our minds forever. It is correctly said, “Experience is the teacher of mankind.” As a master of science student, I have gone through different books where we encounter different reactions and experiments. The results will be shown in diagrams or expressed in simple language. Unless we conduct that experiment, we will not know the problems or difficulties we will have to overcome during the experiments. Textbook knowledge is solely a description of facts and outcomes. In contrast, the same knowledge, when gained through experience, teaches us a lot, right from the start till the end, and ity’s journey through the various aspects of one process which one might not be aware of and might not be described in the books.
During my undergraduate years, I only knew books, and I used to wonder how the experiments were designed and carried out, as in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics laboratories.
